Welcome to our family tree
This web site covers a number of families. The main family being the Meads family from New Zealand.
A considerable amount of the data on this site was sourced from the publication "Meads family tree" that was produced in the 1980's for the New Zealand Meads family reunion. This publication was edited by Pauline Meads & Diane Fletcher.
The data included on this site is an upto date list of descendants of Joseph Meads as well as many branch pedigree records.
The oldest (with a birth date) on the site is John Sturges who was born in 1464
The site also includes William Groocock and quite a few of his descandants. This data was enhanced by Samantha Hoy/Graham Hutchinson who has provided the non Meads arms of the Groocock family
The Scott, Smith, Goodhue, Colpman and Wilson families were supplied by Lianne Wilson
A link has now been established with an extensive Meads branch in Australia through Harry Meads a previously unlisted son of John Meads. (the first born son of Joseph Meads) This data has been provided by Tracy Evans
I am completing a one family study of the UK Meads so I have put the 1881 and 1841 UK census information for all Meads in the UK. This has been grouped into family groups. I have also received some enhancements to the data from three people. I am hoping this will lead to a link with John & Joseph Meads who emigrated to NZ in 1843 and founded the Meads family in NZ. To switch to this set of data please see the menu under the "Welcome page above.
The earliest traces of the Mead family are to be found a history of "The Norman people and their existing descendants in British Dominions and the United States" of publshed in London, England in 1874. From this volume it appears that the name Mead is from the English form of the Norman "DePoata" which translated into English is Mead Meade, Mede, and Meads
